MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Nine runs on 12 hits were not enough for Louisiana Tech softball, as the Bulldogs fell 11-9 to Middle Tennessee in the series finale Saturday at Blue Raider Softball Field. The loss moves LA Tech to 21-18 (7-8 Conference USA).
The Bulldogs outhit the Blue Raiders 12-11 in the loss with three hits going for extra bases, all of which were home runs. MTSU finished with five homers.
Allie Furr led Tech with three hits while
Bradi Gallaway logged two. Gallaway drove in four runs on a grand slam to lead the team in RBI while
Rosalie Dufresne drove in two on a two-run home run.
Reagan Marchant had one hit and one RBI via a solo home run.
Allie Floyd (9-11) took the loss in the circle after allowing three runs on three hits as she entered in the sixth with LA Tech up 9-8.
Bryannah Campos made the start and lasted one inning after allowing three runs on three hits.
Ruby Fidge pitched one inning and gave up one run on two hits, while
Laney Johnson tossed three innings, giving up four runs on three hits.
MTSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a solo home run from Jana Want before Marchant homered in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1.
The Blue Raiders would add three runs in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run and a double, followed by four runs in the fourth to take an 8-1 lead. MTSU recorded a three-run home run and an RBI single in the fourth.
The Bulldogs answered in the top of the fifth after plating eight runs with no outs to take a 9-8 lead.
Elena Heng singled to start the frame, followed by back-to-back walks from Furr and
Gracie Flores. Gallaway cleared the bases with a grand slam to make it 8-5.
After back-to-back walks to
Aleah Brooks and Marchant,
Cali Bennett reached first on a sac bunt and a throwing error that allowed
Carolina Eidson, who pinch ran for Marchant, and Brooks to score, bringing Tech within a run at 8-7.
Dufresne homered to right and drove in Bennett to give the Bulldogs a 9-8 lead to cap off the eight-run fifth.
MTSU went down in order in the bottom of the fifth before regaining the lead with three runs in the sixth. A two-run home run and a solo shot gave the Blue Raiders an 11-9 advantage, which held for the win.
