Series History: LA Tech leads 24-18
LA Tech enters the weekend holding a three-game winning streak following a series win at FIU and a midweek road win at Northwestern State on April 7. The Bulldogs' win over the Demons in Natchitoches marked the first time Tech downed NSU on the road since 2022, and shut out the Demons on their home diamond for the first time since 2016.
The 'Dogs currently sit in a tie for fifth in the CUSA standings alongside Kennesaw State and New Mexico State, who also have 6-6 marks thus far in league play. MTSU currently sits in eighth with a 5-7 record, yet are 0-6 in conference contests away from home.
The Bulldogs have won their previous two series over MTSU by taking wins in the first two games of each series. The last time the 'Dogs fell to the Blue Raiders in a weekend series at home dates back to 2022, with MTSU taking the rubber match in a thrilling 12-inning 6-3 final.
Trey Hawsey and
Colby Lunsford remain two of the top hitters in CUSA entering the weekend, with Hawsey being just one of eight players in the conference with at least 40 hits. The Bulldog first baseman is also one of four CUSA hitters with double-digit homers.
Lunsford is among the top 10 in slugging, OPS, runs scored, doubles and home runs.
MTSU is coming off a midweek win at home over Lipscomb after suffering a road sweep at Jacksonville State, yet played the Gamecocks competitively all weekend by not losing by more than two runs in a game for the series. JSU outscored the Blue Raiders 16-12 throughout the weekend.
MTSU has four hitters batting over .315 entering the weekend, led by Brett Rogers with an average of .347 in 33 starts. He is tied for the most hits on the team with 42 and is one of two players with at least 30 runs scored. Rogers is also one of four Blue Raiders with a triple and leads the team with eight stolen bases on 11 attempts.
Dean O'Neill is the top slugger for MTSU, leading the team with nine homers, 35 RBI and 78 total bases, and is the only other Blue Raider hitter with 42 hits. Tyler Minnick and Nathan Brewer combine for 23 of the team's 66 doubles and are two of seven players with 30 hits thus far.
Drew Horn and David Horn Jr. have been the top strikeout guys for MTSU's pitching staff, with Horn Jr. leading with 38 punchouts and Horn with 36. Chandler Alderman has been the most consistent starter for the Blue Raiders, making eight starts while holding a 4.04 ERA and a 1-1 record.
Landen Burch leads with four winning decisions and is one of three MTSU pitchers with multiple saves. His 26 strikeouts are tied for the third-most with Colin Kerrigan, who holds a 3-2 record with two saves in a team-high 14 appearances.
