Bulldogs Historic Efficiency Sweeps Lady Panthers

Louisiana Tech volleyball hit a historically high .424 percent in a sweep against Prairie View A&M, 3-0 Saturday morning at Moody Coliseum to close out the Wildcat Classic.
ABILENE, Texas – Louisiana Tech volleyball hit a historically high .424 percent in a sweep against Prairie View A&M, 3-0 Saturday morning at Moody Coliseum to close out the Wildcat Classic.
The Bulldogs registered 41 kills on 85 attempts with only five errors, registering a .424 hitting percentage. It is the highest hitting percentage since hitting .544 against Grambling in 2012. In that match against Grambling, the Bulldogs committed five errors on 68 attempts, today the Bulldogs committed the same amount on 17 more attempts.
Tyra McKinnie led the Bulldogs offensively with 12 kills while hitting an impressive .647. Sydnee Carter and Emerson Traylor combined for 37 assists, while Riley Steubing continued her strong defensive play with 14 digs. Megan Cooley added four kills and three blocks, while Gabrielle Hairston finished with five kills.
The Bulldogs controlled the opening set from the start, jumping out to an early advantage before Prairie View A&M battled back to keep the frame close. Louisiana Tech used a late stretch to pull away, closing the set to take the opening frame, 25-18. McKinnie led the way with three kills on five attempts, while Violet Morrandez added three kills on six attempts.
Louisiana Tech carried its momentum into the second set, building an early lead before the Panthers fought back to make it a one-point contest at 10-9. The Bulldogs responded with a 5-1 run to regain control and never surrendered the lead, taking the set 25-19. McKinnie added four more kills in the frame, while Anaya Hairston contributed a pair.
The Bulldogs came out firing in the third set, opening the frame on a 5-0 run behind three straight kills from McKinnie. Louisiana Tech continued to build its advantage, leading 11-2 before Prairie View A&M attempted to rally. The Bulldogs maintained control throughout the remainder of the set, closing out the sweep with a 25-14 victory.
Steubing contributed 14 digs in the win while the team combined for nine total blocks, the third most on the season for the Bulldogs. McKinnie assisted with four and found one block on her own.
