Bulldog Golf Finishes Day One in 1st Place

Schuvalow and Bailey lead the way through round one.
RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech golf team sits in first place after the opening round of the Argent Financial Classic, shooting a 285 (-3) at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, LA.Â
The Bulldogs started strong, with back-to-back birdies from Oskari Schuvalow and Morton Bailey on holes 10 and 11. Schuvalow bookended the back nine with another two birdies, while Bailey added his own on No. 17. Reda El Hali also recorded a birdie on No. 13 to round out the back nine. Aidan Tudor carded par on eight of nine holes on the back nine, with his lone blemish coming on No. 15 with a bogey.Â
Schuvalow's 33 on the back nine is tied for the second best score of the day, only beaten out by Lamar's Nathan Woodham, who shot a 31 on the same side of the course. He had an eagle on No. 17 and three birdies.Â
In addition to Schuvalow and Bailey, Abel Derksen led the way for the Bulldogs on the front nine. After opening with a birdie, Derksen recorded par on Nos. 2-6 and 8-9 and added a birdie on No. 7. Schuvalow recorded two birdies, while Bailey had three. They both finished the front nine with a 35 (-1).Â
LA Tech holds a two-stroke lead over Troy, which sits at 287 (-1). Texas State is right behind, with a 288 (-1). Jacksonville State and East Texas A&M are even, while the remaining teams are over par.Â
