Kane McGuire enters his 14th year at his alma mater as a member of the Strategic Communications department at Louisiana Tech University, having recently been promoted to Associate Athletic Director in July of 2022. He took over as head of the department after serving eight years as an Assistant/Associate Director, followed by a two-year stint as Assistant Athletic Director.
Along with overseeing the LA Tech strategic communications department, McGuire also serves as sport administrator for the women's tennis program and is a member of Senior Staff.
The Ruston native began his career at LA Tech in July of 2012, serving as the primary media contact for men's basketball, soccer, and tennis as well as serving as a secondary media contact for football. He continues to be responsible for the publicity and promotion of men's basketball and tennis with the addition of golf.Â
McGuire joined the LA Tech staff as an Assistant Director after working at Community Trust Bank (now Origin Bank) for five-plus years.
During the last 13Â years at LA Tech, McGuire has worked closely with Bulldog Basketball head coach Talvin Hester as well as former head coaches Eric Konkol (current head coach at the University of Tulsa) and Michael White (current head coach at the University of Georgia). Â Â
He has also worked with promoting 12 all-conference honorees, including Raheem Appleby (three-time all-conference), Kenneth `Speedy' Smith (2015 CUSA Player of the Year and AP All-America Honorable Mention), Alex Hamilton (2016 CUSA Player of the Year and AP All-America Honorable Mention), Erik McCree (two-time all-CUSA), Jacobi Boykins (two-time all-CUSA), Kenneth Lofton Jr. (2021 CUSA Freshman of the Year and two-time all-CUSA), Isaiah Crawford (2024 CUSA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year), and Daniel Batcho (2025 CUSA Defensive Player of the Year and two-time all-CUSA).
McGuire has publicized the Bulldogs on a national level as they have received points on multiple occasions in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25 polls, including the first top 25 national ranking in 28 years during the 2012-13 season.
He helped highlight the team's accomplishments with program records such as 29 wins and an 18-game winning streak as well as highlighting the team's four conference regular season titles and five postseason appearances over the last nine years.
McGuire also works closely with women's tennis head coach Amy Sargeant who was named as the 2025 CUSA Coach of the Year following a 19-win season, the third most in program history, while leading the Bulldogs to their first ever appearance in the CUSA Championship match. He also worked with former head coaches Amanda Stone (current head coach at the University of North Texas) who became the all-time winningest coach in program history and was named the 2023 CUSA Coach of the Year and ITA Southern Region Coach of the Year, Chad Camper (two-time Louisiana Coach of the Year), and Freddy Gomez and is credited with publicizing all-conference selections in tennis including the program's first ever four-time selection in Alexandra Starkova.
In soccer, he has worked with current head coach Steve Voltz as well as former head coach and three-time Louisiana Coach of the Year Kevin Sherry. He helped publicize 10 all-conference players including Kathryn Sloan who was a two-time Louisiana Player of the Year and who became the first student-athlete in LA Tech history to receive the prestigious honor of CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year for Division I Women's Soccer in 2016.
He also has responsibilities of assisting with football as a secondary contact including press conferences, game notes, overseeing the production of the football yearbooks and game day programs as well overseeing the press box for home games.
McGuire has performed public addressing for softball and baseball and has provided color commentary for over 20 men's basketball games alongside LA Tech Hall of Fame broadcaster Dave Nitz.
He has won 20 awards at the annual Louisiana Sports Writers Association SID contest. Nine of the awards have come in the Best Release category, including five first-place finishes in the last five years (two first-place finishes came in 2021-22 for his feature stories on men's basketball's Exavian Christon and the Doll sisters in the soccer program). His feature on Christon also placed fourth in the 2021-22 U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) Best Writing Contest for the moderate-length feature category.
He served as the chairman of the NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) and website redesign committee and was the media coordinator for the 2021 NCAA Ruston Regional and he continues to serve on the Karl Malone Award committee which chooses the nation's top collegiate power forward.
McGuire is a 2006 graduate of Louisiana Tech with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in English. He resides in Ruston with his wife Kari McGuire of St. Francisville, Louisiana, and his two sons, Colin and Owen.
