2016 Women's Soccer Roster
Biography
After spending the last four years as a player on the back line for Louisiana Tech, Charity Simmons will now be on the sideline as an assistant coach. Women's soccer head coach Kevin Sherry made the announcement on Thursday. Simmons joins Sherry and Kiva Gresham while Josh Wagenaar will remain on staff as a volunteer assistant. "Charity is a perfect fit for us," Sherry said. "She has played here for four years and knows how we want to play and how we do things. She has an expertise in strength and conditioning which is a huge asset and balances out our staff nicely. Charity has only recently stopped playing so will be able to empathize with the players needs and wishes much better than anyone else. She is a most welcome addition to the staff." Simmons saw action in 73 games from 2013-16, including 55 starts, as a defender in helping the program to a 48-30-6 record and qualifying for three conference tournaments. She quickly made an impact for the Lady Techsters as a freshman, starting in 19 games and playing the most minutes of any player. "First off, I would like to thank coach Sherry for giving me this opportunity," Simmons said. "As a player and student, Louisiana Tech quickly became a home to me. I could not imagine a better place to start my career than here with the Lady Techster soccer team. I am excited and look forward to the new role I get to take on and how I can contribute as a coach to this program." She scored the lone goal of her career that season in conference action against UTEP while helping a back line register nine shutouts. She went on to be chosen as the Team Co-Defensive Player of the Year. As a sophomore, she made 12 starts at wing back prior to suffering a season-ending injury. The Watson, Louisiana recovered in time for the 2015 season where she played in 19 games and recorded her first career assist. This past season as a senior, Simmons helped LA Tech to a 14-6-1 record, the second most wins in program history. The team finished with a program-best six league victories en route to a fifth-place finish in Conference USA. The Lady Techsters also set a school record with six consecutive road wins.
