    Assistant Coach

Alexia Romero, a decorated graduate of the Louisiana Tech women’s tennis program, was appointed assistant coach for the Bulldogs for the 2026 season.

In her first season on staff in 2026, Romero helped guide Louisiana Tech through one of the most successful campaigns in program history as the Bulldogs posted a 17-4 overall record and an .810 winning percentage --the best mark in school history. LA Tech went undefeated at home with a 5-0 record for the first time since 2017 and posted a perfect 5-0 mark in Conference USA regular season play.

The Bulldogs won nine consecutive matches during the spring, totaled 12 road and neutral-site victories (tied for the second most in program history), and finished 68-32 in dual singles and 34-16 in dual doubles, setting a new program standard for doubles success.

LA Tech earned the No. 1 seed in the Conference USA Championship for the first time in program history and advanced to the semifinals for a fourth consecutive season. The Bulldogs also spent two weeks in the ITA national team rankings, climbing as high as No. 64 in the country to match the highest ranking in program history.

Under Romero’s guidance, LA Tech produced five All-Conference USA selections, including Zoie Epps, who became the program’s first ever Conference USA Player of the Year.

A native of Neuquén, Argentina, Romero transitions into coaching after a standout collegiate career at Louisiana Tech from 2020-24, where she developed into one of the most accomplished players in program history both on and off the court.

Romero is the only player in program history to reach the 70-70 club, compiling more than 70 career victories in both singles and doubles competition.

During her final season in 2023-24, she posted a 16-3 dual singles record and won 33 completed sets. Her 84.2% singles winning percentage ranked among the best single-season marks in program history, while her 54 career dual singles wins rank second all-time in program history.

In doubles play, Romero added a 13-7 dual record during her final campaign, closing the season with four consecutive wins over ULM, Kansas State, Wichita State, and WKU. She finished her career with 53 dual doubles victories, the second-most in program history.

Romero’s consistency and production earned her multiple postseason honors, including Second Team All-Conference USA recognition in both singles and doubles, as well as All-Freshman Team honors in 2020. She was also a consistent presence on the academic side, earning five selections to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll (2020–24) and being named a 2020 CUSA Academic Medalist.

Prior to her collegiate career, Romero arrived at Louisiana Tech as one of Argentina’s top junior prospects, ranking No. 1 nationally in the U14 and U16 divisions and competing for the Argentine national team.
