Louisiana is home for Gomez and his wife Julie, who is a native of Hammond. Gomez served as a private tennis coach while obtaining his masters of science in sports management from Louisiana State University in the spring of 2008.
In his one year with Louisiana Tech, he led the Lady Techsters to their best-ever conference finish and pulled in a recruiting class that ranked 14th nationally among mid-major programs. After beginning the season 1-3, LA Tech reeled off 13 wins in a stretch of 14 matches, including a program-record seven conference wins and its first-ever conference tournament win to finish 15-5 while Joanna Nalborska became the first player in program history to be named conference freshman of the year.
Recently, Gomez served as an assistant coach for two and a half years with the Virginia Tech Hokies where he was responsible for multiple duties such as recruiting, promotions, scheduling, practices and administration.
While in Blacksburg, Virginia, he successfully recruited the No. 16 ranked player in the nation in the 2012 freshman class which led to Virginia Tech's entire class being ranked 16th nationally -- one of the highest in program history.
In 2011-12, he helped develop the program's first ever two-times All-Atlantic Coast Conference from VT, and the team reached a top-50 national ranking, while developing other players who reached national rankings in doubles and singles as well.
During his time at Virginia Tech, the Hokie players were not only successful on the courts, but in the classroom as the women's tennis team carried the highest GPA among the University's sports programs.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech's coaching staff, Gomez was a staff coach for three years at the Evert Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Florida where he developed junior players into top national USTA and International ITF rankings while also assisting with WTA players within the professional ranks.
During the summers, he coordinated and promoted tennis camps as an assistant tennis pro at Cliff Drysdale Tennis in Southampton, New York where they specialize in tennis program development and daily tennis operations.
Gomez also had brief stints as an assistant tennis director at the George Washington University Tennis Center, as a tennis pro staffer at Green Spring Racquet Club in Baltimore, Maryland and as an assistant men's tennis coach at Illinois State University in 2006.
As a former player and student-athlete at the University of Toledo, he has also competed at the top levels of Division I collegiate tennis and international junior competition, earning significant accomplishments on teh court as well as academically.
Gomez was a varsity team captain at Toledo and team MVP for the men's tennis team, garnering multiple conference player of the week honors. He earned a bachelor's of business administration at the university in the summer of 2005 while majoring in marketing and international business.
The San Tome, Venezuela native was ranked No. 1 in the 16-18 year-old category in his country and was ranked as high as No. 312 on the ITF junior circuit.
Gomez is also USPTA certified and fluent in Spanish.
