Lady Techsters Just Short of Michigan, 69-66

ANN ARBOR, Michigan (Nov. 17) - Three late free throws complimentary of two questionable calls with 15.1 seconds remaining lifted Michigan to a 69-66 win over the eighth-ranked Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters at Crisler Arena Friday night.

With Tech and UM tied at 66-66 and under :20 remaining junior guard Brooke Lassiter missed a 15-footer and Wolverine forward Raina Goodrow grabbed the rebound before falling to the floor. However, instead of a traveling violation, officials whistled Tech's Kenya Bibbs for a foul and then proceded to hit Lady Techster head coach Leon Barmore with a technical.

Goodlow and Anne Thorius hit three-of-four from the charity stripe before a last-second three-point attempt by Essence Perry was off the mark as Michigan pulled off the biggest upset in school history.

Tech led 28-23 at the half after a defensive battle in the opening stanza that saw both teams shoot 30 percent from the floor.

However, the second half proved to be a free throw shooting contest for Michigan as the Wolverines converted 26-of-32 attempts after making two-of-three in the first half.

Tech led throughout as UM grabbed its only advantage of the first half at 11-9 at the 11:47 mark. However, a Lassiter layup at the 11:15 mark tied the game and Tech would not trail against until the final :15.

Junior forward Ayana Walker scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, while junior point guard Perry added 11 points. Bibbs came off the bench to chip in with nine point and 10 rebounds.

Goodlow led UM with 17 points, while Thorius and Alayne Ingram added 14 apiece, although the threesome only shot 12-of-34 from the field.

Tech (2-1) returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m. in the semifinals of the WNIT against No. 13 ranked Virginia in West Lafayette, Ind.
