NEW ORLEANS, La. - No one felt worse following Louisiana Tech's loss to Tennessee Wednesday night than junior guard Amber Obaze who shot 0-13 from the field and was held scoreless for the first time in her career.

However, the Dallas, Texas, native responded by scoring a season-high 21 points to lead the Lady Techsters to a 68-53 win over Tulane at the New Orleans Arena Sunday afternoon.

"What a tremendous game Amber had," said Tech head coach Kurt Budke. "She really responded. No one in this world was as disappointed as she was the other night. To come out today and hit so many key shots when the game was on the line showed what type of player she is. I think this game will help her regain her confidence."

Obaze scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half, including 11 points in the last 10 minutes of the game when Tulane had cut the Tech lead to 42-39.

"To go 0-for in a game makes you feel awful," Obaze said. "The way I look at it, if I score zero in a game, I needed to come out and have a great game. I had to reevaluate my whole game. I had to start from the beginning and see what made me the player I was last year. Then I had to bring those things into play."

After Tech came out in the second half and built a 39-24 lead at the 17:48 mark, Tulane clawed its way back. Budke said one of the keys to the win was his team's attitude of never-give-up.

"I told the girls that we won this game in the second half of the Tennessee game," Budke said. "We didn't quit against Tennessee and that propelled us to this victory tonight. Tulane is a very good team who has been to the NCAA Tournament eight straight years, and they will be back in it this year."

Defensively, Tech held Tulane to only 33 percent from the field and outrebounded the Green Wave 47-39. Teanna McKiver led the Green Wave with 21 points and 10 rebounds, but the Lady Techsters stopped the potent three-point attack of Tulane who hit only 2 of 11 for the game.

"The one thing we've done all year long is play defense," Budke said. "Anytime you can come into someone's house and hold them to 53 points you've done a great job defensively."

Trina Frierson added 10 points while Cheryl Ford scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Aarica Ray scored a career-high nine points in 15 minutes.

The Lady Techsters shot 47 percent from the field in the first half on its way to a 31-24 halftime advantage.
