Techsters Dominating the WAC Statistically
RUSTON - Although 11th-ranked Louisiana Tech only holds a slim half-game lead in the current Western Athletic Conference standings, the Lady Techsters are dominating many of the statistical categories in this week's league release.
Tech boasts four of the league's top nine scorers, led by senior forward Trina Frierson who is No. 1 in the conference in scoring at 16.7 points per game. Senior forward Amisha Carter is one of three Lady Techsters ranked in the top 11 in rebounding, leading the conference with 10.1 boards per game.
The Lady Techsters also boast four of the league's top six players in steals per game led by junior guard Erica Smith-Taylor, who is averaging 2.93 steals per game to rank No. 2 in the WAC. Sophomore point guard Tasha Crain ranks No. 1 in the conference in assist to turnover ratio at 2.80 as the Kingsland, Ark., native has registered 42 assists and only 15 turnovers on the season.
Senior guard Amber Obaze is listed in four of the WAC's statistical categories, including No. 9 in scoring, No. 8 in field goal percentage and No. 4 in steals.
As a team the Lady Techsters rank No. 1 in nine of the 19 statistical categories, including leading the way in points per game (83.3), field goal percentage (45.2) and rebounding margin (+8.1).
Nationally, Tech ranks No. 3 in the country in scoring, No. 10 in scoring margin (+22.4), No. 16 in rebounding margin, No. 2 in steals per game (14.5) and No. 28 in field goal percentage. Carter is the only Techster ranking nationally in a category, No. 28 in rebounds per game.
