Updated Jan 6, 2004 15:56:22 Tech Frosh Gets National Notice

Louisiana Tech forward Paul Millsap has been gaining more and more attention as the 2003-04 basketball season has progressed.

Now the true freshman out of Grambling, La. is getting nationally noticed.

Millsap is ranked No. 1 in national rebounding statistics and No. 2 in national field-goal percentage statistics after the NCAA released its updated men's basketball national rankings Tuesday.

The previous NCAA had been compiled as of Dec. 15, 2003, when Millsap ranked No. 10 nationally in rebounds.

Millsap (6-7, 225) is averaging 12.0 rebounds per game, with 4.58 offensive boards and 7.42 defensive boards per contest.

He ranks second in NCAA field-goal percentage at 68.6 percent after connecting on 70-of-102 attempted field goals so far this season for the Bulldogs. Western Kentucky's Nigel Dixon leads the nation with a 69.2 field goal percentage.

Millsap, who leads the Bulldogs with eight double-doubles this season, is averaging 15.2 points per game and is coming off a personal best performance in which he set new careers highs of 27 points and 17 rebounds in a loss to Rice.

He also leads the Western Athletic Conference in blocked shots with 1.83 per game.

Millsap's ability on the boards has helped Louisiana Tech become the NCAA's No. 7 rebounding team with a plus-11.2 rebound margin.
