LAFAYETTE, La. - Louisiana Tech dropped both of its contests Sunday at the 18th Annual Louisiana Classic falling to McNeese State 7-3 and Louisiana-Lafeyette 11-1 at Lady Cajuns Park to complete the weekend tournament.

In the morning contest against the McNeese State Cowgirls, three Lady Techster errors led to three unearned runs and allowed McNeese State to build a 7-0 advantage through five innings while a seventh inning Tech rally fell short.

McNeese State (3-5) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring two runs on three hits while leaving two runners on base. The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Cowgirls scored five runs on only two hits while a pair of Lady Techster errors proved costly.

Tech (4-5) scored its three runs in the top of the seventh, all coming with two outs. After a Casey Reiff single, Jessica Elson singled in the Lady Techsters first run. Jennifer LaRussa followed with an RBI double to left field, scoring Elson.

Ashley Cameron then doubled home LaRussa to make the score 7-3. Tech then loaded the bases after Ashley Aycock was hit by a pitch and Ashley Palma walked, but McNeese State's Corrie Hale came in on relief of starter Jessica Denham to end the threat with a strikeout.

Amber Miles led Tech offensively with a pair of hits. Senior pitcher Marla Pinkston (2-3) picked up the loss, hurling five innings while allowing six hits, six walks and seven runs, four earned.

In the afternoon contest, powerhouse Louisiana-Lafeyette pounded the Lady Techsters, as Tech struggled offensively by only clubbing three hits on the day.

Kristin Blodgette (0-1) pitched four innings for Tech giving up six hits and four runs, all of which were unearned, while striking out three Lady Cajun batters before Sabra Warner came in for relief in the fifth inning. With Tech only down three runs heading into the fifth inning, things got a little rocky for the Lady Techsters.

The Lady Cajuns tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning, and then the floodgates opened in the seventh inning, as Louisiana-Lafeyette scored six runs to increase their lead and give them the 11-1 victory over Tech.

The Lady Techsters lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning Reiff hit a solo home run to left field. Elson and Aycock accounted for the two other hits for Tech.

The Lady Techsters will play next at McNeese State Tuesday at 6 p.m.
