Softball Splits Pair at Mississippi State Tournament

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Louisiana Tech softball team opened the 2004 season by splitting a pair of contests with a record-breaking 30-0 win over Jackson State and a 6-1 loss to Mississippi State.
The 30 runs in a game and 17 runs in the first inning are school records as Sabra Warner no-hit the Lady Tigers.
Kristin Blodgette and Ashley Palmer each had four RBIs for Tech.
Warner gave up two walks while striking out 11.
In the nightcap, Mississippi State rallied with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie to defeat the Lady Techsters, 6-1.
Tech took the early lead on a Jennifer LaRussa single to score Amber Miles in the first inning.
Marla Pinkston (0-1) suffered the loss for Tech but only allowed one earned one as three Lady Techsters errors led to five unearned runs for the Bulldogs.
Pinkston gave up nine hits and struck out eight in seven innings.
Tech was limited to four hits in the game by MSU?s Melissa Massey.
The Lady Techsters return to action on Saturday, facing Bradley at 10 a.m. and Jackson State again at noon.
