The Lady Techster softball team squeezed out of a tight game with a 2-1 victory over the Centenary Ladies today in Shreveport behind senior pitcher Marla Pinkston.

Today?s win marked the third-straight victory for Tech, and head coach Sarah Dawson credited her senior ace, Pinkston, with a fine performance on the mound to give the Lady Techsters the chance to win.

?Marla gave us an awesome game out there today,? Dawson said. ?She only had two balls leave the infield, and she threw an excellent game. She threw her change up well, which she?s had a little trouble with lately, and Erin Chernicky did a good job behind the plate calling the game.?

The contest went into extra innings after Tech (11-11) tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the seventh inning. In the seventh, Mary Cohn singled before Kristen Blodgette pinch ran for Cohn and scored on an Amber Miles single to left field.

Then in the ninth, Cohn again started the offensive attack for the Lady Techsters, as she doubled to left field and eventually scored on an Amiee Coleman single down the right field line to give Tech the one-run edge.

Pinkston (7-8) endured all nine innings, giving up only four hits, one unearned run and one walk while striking out nine Centenary (9-11) batters.

Tech will finally come home to the Lady Techster Softball Complex for a contest against Northwestern State University on March 16, and Dawson speaks on behalf of the team when she said it?s good to be home.

?It was very important for us to have won these past three games, and we seem to be doing very well on the road,? Dawson said. ?But we?re excited about coming home and playing in front of a friendly crowd instead of a hostile crowd.?
