Golden Hurricane Sweeps Tech in Softball DH
Tulsa had the hot bats Saturday as the Golden Hurricane swept a softball doubleheader over Louisiana Tech at the Donna J. Hardesty Softball Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Golden Hurricane won the Western Athletic Conference opener 2-0 and game two 8-0.
Tulsa (26-12 overall, 2-0 WAC) picked up 18 hits on the day, seven in the openerand 11 in the nightcap while Lousiana Tech (13-18, 0-2) picked up eight hits, five in game one and three in game two.
Louisiana Tech pitcher Marla Pinkston only gave up one earned run in the opener, but the Golden Hurricane pushed across a run in the fourth and one in the sixth to win the WAC opener for both teams.
Amber Miles and Bidget Broadnax each went 2-for-3 at the plate for Tech in game one, but the Techsters couldn't manage to cross the plate.
Pinkston fell to 8-12 with the loss while Tulsa's Ami Day struck out four Techsters and moved to 6-6 on the season.
The Golden Hurricane stormed out early and raged again late in the nightcap as Tulsa pushed across three runs in the first inning and added four the bottom of the fifth and final inning to take the eight-run rule win.
Jessica Elson, Ashley Cameron and Broadnax accounted for Tech's three hits, all singles, in that contest.
Kristen Blodgette picked up the loss for Tech and fell to 2-2 while Maren Genow was the winner for Tulsa and moved to 11-3 on the season.
Louisiana Tech will next play host to Louisiana-Monroe in a single match starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
