EL PASO, Texas - After only scoring 20 runs in its previous 13 games, Louisiana Tech exploded offensively Saturday in sweeping a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader from UTEP 12-6 and 8-4 at Thunderbird Stadium.

The Lady Techsters (18-22, 5-5 WAC) had to storm back from a 6-0 second inning deficit in game one against the Miners, scoring one run in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and six more in the sixth to claim the victory.

Bridget Broadnax, Mary Cohn and Kristin Blodgette lead Tech offensively, each collecting three hits during the game while Cohn and Erin Chernicky each drove in three runs for the Lady Techsters.

Senior pitcher Marla Pinkston picked up the win and improved to 10-14 on the season, despite allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and two walks in the complete-game victory.

After Tech tied the game at 6-6 heading into the top of the sixth inning, the Lady Techsters scored six more runs as a pair of two-run doubles by pinch hitter Jessica Elson and Cohn highlighted the inning.

In game No. 2 Tech broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth inning by scoring six runs and eventually won the contest 8-4 as the game was called after five innings due to darkness.

Amber Miles, Brittany Stanley, Broadnax, Cohn and Blodgette each recorded two hits each during the game while Elson and Cohn also drove in a pair of runs. Blodgette also picked up the win for Tech by throwing four innings of four-hit ball while allowing three runs, one earned, and one walk.

Just like in game No. 1, Elson and Cohn each recorded two-run hits to highlight Louisiana Tech's six run inning that ultimately produced the victory.

The Lady Techsters have now won five games in a row to even their Western Athletic Conference mark at 5-5.
