Boxscore
HAMMOND, La. - After a recent offensive surge, the Louisiana Tech softball team could muster very little offense Wednesday night falling twice to Southeastern Louisiana 1-0 and 3-2 at North Oak Park in Hammond.
The Lady Techsters, who entered the two-game series having won eight of its last 10 games, recorded only eight hits total in the two contests while falling to 21-26 on the season heading into Thursday's single game against Centenary at home at 5 p.m.
In game one of the evening, Southeastern (22-25) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Lady Lion pitcher Kelli Shipley earned the win, scattering four hits and only one walk during the complete game victory.
With the two teams scoreless, Southeastern's Kelli Gautreau drew a one-out walk from Tech starter Marla Pinkston and advanced to second on a ground out by Karin Smith. However, with two outs and Gautreau on second base, Becki de la Garza reached on a fielding error in the Tech outfield and Gautreau scored the lone run of the contest.
Pinkston (12-15) received the hard luck loss for Tech, pitching six innings while allowing only four hits and one walk and the one unearned run.
Junior outfielder Amber Miles was Louisiana Tech's only offense of the game, recording three of the Lady Techster's four hits while also registering her Western Athletic Conference leading 19th stolen base of the year. Right fielder Ashley Cameron tallied Tech's only other hit of the game.
In the second game of the day, Southeastern scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to record the win. With the two teams tied 2-2 heading into the extra frame, Sarah Gascon drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Gautreau. Smith then singled to right field, scoring Gascon with the game-winning run.
Tech jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a one-out RBI single by Jessica Elson, scoring Cameron with the go-ahead run. Southeastern quickly answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the second and took a 2-1 lead with another in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lady Techsters tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning. Sophomore Bridget Broadnax led the inning off with a double to left center. Aimee Coleman pinch ran for Broadnax and advanced to third on a passed ball. Sophomore second baseman plated Coleman with the tying run one out later on an RBI single up the middle, sending the game to extra innings.
Kristin Blodgette (3-3) picked up the loss for Tech in relief, pitching three innings of no-hit ball while allowing two walks and one earned run. Cohn led Tech offensively with a pair of hits while Broadnax and Elson each registered on base hit.
