Techsters Sweep San Jose State
SAN JOSE, Calif. - Louisiana Tech pounded out 21 hits to sweep San Jose State 3-1 and 4-2 Thursday afternoon in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at San Jose State Field.
Senior Marla Pinkston (9-14) pitched a complete game to lead Louisiana Tech in the first contest of the afternoon, scattering three hits and two walks while allowing only one earned run and striking out eight Spartan batters.
Offensively, Tech struck for two runs in the top of the third inning on a two-out, two-run double by senior shortstop Jen LaRussa that scored Brittany Stanley and Casey Reiff and gave the Lady Techsters (16-22, 3-5 WAC) a 2-0 lead.
San Jose State (8-24, 2-2 WAC) answered with its lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by first baseman Lindsey Allen. Tech added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning on a run-scoring single by freshman rightfielder Ashley Cameron, scoring Stanley.
LaRussa and sophomore second baseman Mary Cohn led Tech in game one with two hits each while Amber Miles, Stanley, Cameron, Ashley Palma, Jessica Elson and Reiff each added one hit.
In the second game of the day, Tech a pair of runs in both the top of the third and sixth to down San Jose State. With the Spartans leading 1-0 heading into the third inning, LaRussa put Tech on the board with an RBI single scoring Miles who led the frame off with a single. Palma gave the Techsters a 2-1 lead, drawing a bases loaded two-out walk.
After San Jose State tied the game up with a run in the bottom of the third inning, Louisiana Tech finally took another lead on a run-scoring triple by Miles which plated Aimee Coleman. Stanley followed with an RBI single scoring Miles.
Junior Lindsey Meadows (2-2) earned the win for Tech, hurling five innings of four-hit ball, while allowing only two runs, one earned. Kristin Blodgette earned her second save of the year for the Lady Techsters, allowing only one walk over the final two innings.
Miles led Tech offensively with three hits, while Stanley, LaRussa and Palma each registered two hits.
