MONROE - Louisiana Tech managed only one hit while dropping a pair of games during day one action at the Louisiana-Monroe Mardi Gras Classic.

The Lady Techsters fell 8-0 to Louisville in the first game of the day before dropping a 4-0 decision to Western Athletic Conference foe San Jose State in a non-conference game.

The first game of the day started out as a pitcher's duel as Tech's Lindsey Meadows and Louisville's Aja Sherman registered perfect games through the first three innings.

Meadows struck out five of the Cardinals first eight hitters in the game before struggling in the last two frames.

"I thought Lindsey pitched well before she starting getting her pitches up in the strike zone," said head coach Sarah Dawson. "She had the (Louisville batters) swinging and missing her curve in the first three innings. She just can't afford to get the ball up in the zone and that's what happened the last two innings."

With the game scoreless, Louisville struck for two runs in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Courtney Moore.

Tech had its lone opportunity of the game to score in the bottom of the fourth after a one-out single by second baseman Rochelle Sandberg, the lone hit of the contest for the Techsters. However, after Sandberg advanced to second on Regan Clark's groundout, Meadows ended the inning with a strikeout.

The Cardinals exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth inning, thanks to five hits, including two triples and a double. Moore led Louisville with two hits and four RBI.

Meadows (2-4) picked up the loss for Tech, allowing eight runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of action. Junior Kristin Rupp came on in relief of Meadows in the fifth, registering the final two outs of the game.

Sherman (2-4) was the winning pitcher for Louisville, allowing only one hit and no walks in the five-inning complete game win.

In game two of the day, San Jose State hurler Carol Forbes (3-4) tossed a perfect game against the Techsters, retiring all 21 batters in order.

The Spartans scored two runs in the top of the first before adding single runs in the third and fourth innings.

Meadows picked up the loss for Tech, allowing four runs - three earned - and eight hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Tech returns to action Saturday against Southern Miss at 9 a.m. and Louisiana-Monroe at 11 a.m.
