WACO, Texas - Freshman Rochelle Sandberg drove in a career-high four runs to lead Louisiana Tech to a 7-1 win over Sam Houston State at the Baylor Compass Bank Invitational Friday morning.
Tech (8-8) scored three runs in the second and two more in both the fourth and fifth innings to claim its seventh win in the past 10 games while Sam Houston State fell to 4-11 on the year.
"We hit the ball really well this morning," said Tech head coach Sarah Dawson. "I was definitely pleased with what I saw."
Sophomore Jessica Elson plated the first run of the day for the Lady Techsters with a two-out RBI single in the top of the second inning, driving home starting pitcher Lindsey Meadows. After centerfielder Amber Miles reached on an error, Sandberg singled to center to make the score 3-0 Tech.
Sandberg made the score 5-0 with a two-run double to right center field in the top of the fifth inning.
Meadows and sophomore Carly White finished the scoring for Tech with run scoring doubles in the top of the fifth inning.
Meadows (5-5) picked up the win for Tech, allowing only two hits in 4.1 innings of work while striking out three Sam Houston State batters. Kristin Rupp came on in relief in the fifth inning, and allowed one run on two hits and one walk over the final 2.2 innings of play.
Sandberg ended the game with two hits, four RBI and one stolen base while Miles, Regan Clark, Brittany Stanley, Meadows White and Elson all registered hits in the win.
Tech will face No. 11 ranked Baylor at 4:15 p.m. today.
