RUSTON - Louisiana Tech fell 1-0 and 7-5 to McNeese State Wednesday in softball action at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Tech (16-20) wasted an impressive pitching performance in the first game from senior Lindsey Meadows who allowed only five hits in the nine-inning marathon while striking out 11 McNeese State batters.
The lone run of the contest was scored in the top of the ninth inning. McNeese State's Nicole Edlund began the inning on second base and was sacrificed to third base by shortstop Brooke Broadhead.
First baseman Beth Jordan singled home Edlund with the lone run of the contest, giving McNeese State a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Techsters had the tying run on third base with two outs in the bottom of the frame before freshman Regan Clark grounded out to end the contest.
Tech managed only five hits in the game and posted only one real scoring threat. In the bottom of the third inning, shortstop Jessica Elson singled with one out but was thrown out trying to steal. Two pitches later, senior centerfielder Amber Miles drove a double to the left centerfield wall that could have possibly scored Elson.
Miles led Tech offensively with two hits while Carly White, Brittany Welch and Elson each registered one base hit.
Jessica Denham (3-13) picked up the win in relief for the Cowgirls, allowing only one hit over the last two innings.
In the second game of the night, McNeese State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the third inning off Tech starter Lesley Aycock.
However, Tech's bats finally came to life as the Techsters plated four runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame. Freshman Rochelle Sandberg ripped a two-run triple before Ashley Cameron followed with an RBI double and White an RBI single.
McNeese State plated three runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to take a 7-4 lead. The Techsters cut the advantage to 7-5 on an RBI double by Jessica Elson in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Denham (4-13) picked up her second win of the day for McNeese State, allowing two hits and one run in three innings of relief.
Meadows (12-14) picked up the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in three innings of action.
Elson registered two hits, while Miles, Sandberg, Cameron, White and Sandy Carroll each added one.
Tech returns to action March 30 at Stephen F. Austin.
