Softball Splits Doubleheader in Home Opener

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech opened its home schedule by splitting a doubleheader against Southeastern Louisiana with the Lady Techsters winning game one 5-0 before dropping the nightcap 10-4 to the Lions.

Lindsey Meadows (6-8) tossed a three hit complete game in game one while striking out seven without issuing a free pass.

Meadows was also the offensive star with a two-run home run in the second inning to give her all the support she would need.

Tech (9-14) scored two more in the third on an Ashley Cameron double to score
Rochelle Sandberg who double to lead off the inning. Meadows picked up another RBI with sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 Lady Techster lead.

Sandberg drove in Tech?s final run with a single in the fourth inning.
Cameron and Sandberg each had three hits in game one with Meadows leading the team with three RBIs as Tech posted 10 hits.

Game two was a different story as six errors allowed the Lions to take game two from the Lady Techsters.

Tech spotted SLU three runs in the first two innings with three unearned runs before Amy Ford gave the Lions a 4-0 with a solo home run int the third inning.

Tech got back in the game with a three-run blast by Ashley Palma in the bottom of the fifth but could not closer.

Southeastern (6-11) broke the game open in the seventh with six runs on five hits and one costly Lady Techster error.

Tech scored one in the bottom of the seventh when Jessica Elson singled in Palma who led off with a double.

Tech had eight hits and six errors in game two while the Lions posted 12 hits and went errorless.

Meadows (6-9) took the loss after allowing four runs (one earned) in six innings.

Kristin Rupp and Leslie Aycock also pitched for Tech in game two.

Devin King (1-1) collected the complete game win for Southeastern.

Palma had three hits and three RBIs while Brittany Stanley and Elson posted two hits each.

Tech returns to action at the Birmingham Southern Tournament on Friday.
