UTSA Sweeps Techsters

RUSTON ? Texas-San Antonio swept a doubleheader from Louisiana Tech Thursday night by the scores of 6-3 and 10-2 at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Tech (18-33) led 1-0 through three innings of game No. 1 before UTSA (32-15) scored one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 6-1 advantage into the seventh.
The Lady Techsters rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring two runs to cut the deficit to 6-3 with runners on first and third and only one out. Rochelle Sandberg appeared to have hit a sacrifice fly to left field that would have cut the lead to 6-4 and given home-run leader Ashley Cameron an opportunity to come to the plate with a chance to tie the game but Carly White was called for leaving third base early, thus ending the contest.
Lindsey Meadows (13-21) picked up the loss, allowing six runs ? five earned ? on 10 hits and two walks with seven strike outs. Amanda Nikolenko picked up the win over UTSA, allowing three runs ? two earned ? on six h its and two walks in the complete-game victory.
Cameron and Amber Miles each led Tech with two hits while Brittany Stanley and Ashley Palma each registered one hit. Cameron tied the Louisiana Tech single season home run record with her ninth of the year coming in the first inning and giving the Techsters the lead.
In the second game of the night, UTSA exploded for nine runs in the top of the third inning to break open a 1-1 game and down Tech 10-2 in five innings. Four Tech pitchers saw action with Carly White (0-1) ? making her first appearance on the mound for Tech this season ? picking up the loss, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks.
Meadows finished the game for Tech, allowing only one hit in two innings of action while striking out two. With the two strikeouts, Meadows now has 222 for the season, moving her into fourth place in the Tech single season record books.
Stanley, Brittany Welch and Leah Beasley each registered one hit for Tech in the game.
Ortiz Hope (4-1) picked up the win for UTSA, allowing only one earned run on three hits and one walk. Jessica Rogers and Jessica Els each homered for UTSA in the win.
