Boxscore I Boxscore II
RUSTON - Northwestern State banged out 31 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Louisiana Tech Tuesday night, defeating the Lady Techsters 15-6 and 7-3 at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
The Lady Demons (35-23) scored in every inning of play in the 15-6 victory, including blowing the game open early with a nine-run second inning. Northwestern State scored the nine runs on 10 base hits to build a 10-1 lead.
After NSU upped the advantage to 11-1, Tech responded by scoring five runs on six hits in the bottom of the third inning to pull within five. The Lady Techsters rally was highlighted by an RBI double by Lindsey Meadows, an RBI double by Brittany Stanley, and a two-run scoring single by Ashley Palma.
However, 11-6 was as close as the Techsters would get as Northwestern State scored three runs in the top half of the fifth inning to end the game on the eight-run rule.
Amber Miles, Ashely Cameron, Stanley and Palma each registered two hits for Tech in the contest with Palma leading the way with three RBI.
Lindsey Meadows (13-22) picked up the loss for Tech, allowing six earned runs on five hits and three walks in only 1.1 innings of action. Kristin Rupp came on in relief and allowed nine runs - six earned - on 14 hits in 3.2 innings of work.
NSU was led by Amanda Glenn and Shay Hunt with three RBI each. Glenn picked up the win in relief, allowing two runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work.
The second game of the evening proved to be much closer as Tech took a 1-0 lead on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Stanley in the first inning.
After Northwestern State scored three runs in the top of the third, Tech answered with two runs in its half of the frame. With runners on second and third and two outs, both Lindsey Meadows and Stanley scored on a wild pitch by the Lady Demons pitcher to tie the game up.
However, NSU retook the lead by scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth innings and two more in the seventh.
Stanley once again led Tech offensively with two hits and one RBI.
Tech starter Lesley Aycock (3-6) took the loss, allowing five runs - four earned - on nine hits in 5.1 innings of action.
Glenn (10-7) registered another win in relief, allowing zero runs and only one hit over the final 3.1 innings of the game.
