RUSTON - Louisiana-Monroe pitcher Jennifer Braley pitched out of a bases loaded seventh inning jam to preserve a 4-2 win over Louisiana Tech Tuesday night at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
Leading 4-2 heading into the bottom of the final frame, Braley (4-12) allowed a one-out single before walking consecutive batters to load the bases. However, Braley got Tech freshman Regan Clark to foul out to first base before retiring Lindsey Meadows on a fly ball to left field for the final out.
Tech (17-25) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs and no runners on, Techster shortstop Jessica Elson singled and then scored on a double by Ashley Cameron and a throwing error by Calli Baker.
UL-Monroe answered in the top of the second inning as Baker redeemed herself with a two-out, two-run home run over the center field wall, giving the Lady Indians a 2-1 advantage.
Tech pitcher Lindsey Meadows tied the game up in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run, her second long ball of the season.
However, once again, UL-Monroe answered scoring a lone run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Nicole Bethurum to centerfield.
The game remained 3-2 until the Lady Indians added a security run in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Lindsay Schafer, setting the scene for Tech's near rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Braley earned the win, scattering nine hits and two walks while allowing two runs - one earned.
Meadows (13-17) picked up the loss, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits while striking out six batters.
Amber Miles, Cameron and Meadows led Tech's offensive attack with two hits each while Bethurum's three hits led UL-Monroe.
