Boxscore I Boxscore II
NATCHITOCHES, La. - Northwestern State posted come-from-behind wins in both ends of a softball doubleheader, downing Louisiana Tech 6-5 and 3-2 at The Demon Diamond Wednesday evening.
Louisiana Tech (17-27) led 5-0 in game one before Northwestern State scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth to hand the Lady Techsters the 6-5 defeat.
Head coach Sarah Dawson's squad jumped out to the big lead thanks to a four-run second inning with the big blow being a three-run home run off the bat of sophomore Carly White. Sophomore Ashley Cameron increased the Techster lead to 5-0 with a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning.
Northwestern State (28-20) then scored four runs on four hits in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Tech starter Lesley Aycock got into a bases loaded jam in the frame before being relieved by Lindsey Meadows. However, Meadows struggled, allowing an RBI groundout to make the score 4-1 before yielding a three-run home run to Northwestern State shortstop Shay Hunt.
Meadows then allowed two solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Lady Demons took a 6-5 lead. Northwestern State pitcher Amanda Glenn retired three straight Tech batters in the top of the seventh to pick up the win in relief.
Meadows (13-18) picked up the loss, allowing three earned runs on three hits - all home runs - in two innings of work.
Cameron (2-for-3, 1 RBI), Regan Clark (2-for-3) and Christine Echols (2-for-3, 1 RBI) led Tech with multiple hits while White (1-for-3, 3 RBI) was the top run producer.
In the second game of the evening, Tech led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before Northwestern State struck for two runs. The game was called after five innings due to inclement weather.
After Northwestern State took a 1-0 lead off Tech starter Kristin Rupp in the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Techsters responded by tying the game up in the top half of the third. With two outs and no one on base, consecutive singles by Jessica Elson and Rochelle Sandberg set up an RBI single by Cameron.
Tech then took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI double by Sandy Carroll, scoring Brittany Stanley who had singled and stolen second base.
Northwestern State scored the winning runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI double by Hunt and the game-winning RBI single by Lyndsey Gorski.
Rupp (1-5) picked up the loss for Tech, allowing three runs on 10 hits and one walk while Glenn (6-6) picked up her second win of the day.
Sandberg (2-for-3) and Stanley (2-for-2) were the top hitters for the Techsters in the loss.
Tech returns to action Friday when it hosts Nevada in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
