RUSTON - Brittany Welch scored on an eighth inning one-out error by Nevada shortstop Brittany Lorenzen to give Louisiana Tech a 4-3 extra inning win over the Wolfpack and allowed the Lady Techsters to salvage the second game of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader Friday.

Nevada downed Tech 3-0 in the first game of the day played at the Lady Techster Softball Complex in Ruston.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Welch lined a double off the left centerfield wall and then Ashley Palma followed with a bloop single into shallow right field, moving Welch to third base.

Pinch hitter Lindsey Meadows then hit a grounder to short that Lorenzen kicked, allowing Welch to score the game-winning run.

Tech (18-28, 2-3 WAC) trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Wolfpack (14-21, 3-2 WAC) were one out away from sweeping the twinbill when Tech sophomore Ashley Cameron lined a pitch into left field scoring Amber Miles with the tying run which eventually sent the game into extra frames.

Junior Kristin Rupp (2-5) picked up the win, allowing three runs in eight innings of action while scattering eight hits and five walks. Jordan McPherson (6-6) picked up the loss in relief, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks in only 3.2 innings of action.

Miles, Welch and Palma led Tech offensively with two hits each while Lorenzen recorded three hits for Nevada.

Despite picking up the loss in game two, McPherson was impressive in the complete game shutout of the Techsters in the first game of the day, allowing only six hits and one walk in seven innings.

Nevada struck for two runs in the top of the second inning on a two-run home run by Kristin Stith off of Tech starter Lindsey Meadows. The Wolf Pack added a solo run in the third before McPherson closed the door on the Techsters.

Meadows (13-19) picked up the loss, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out seven.

Regan Clark led Tech offensively in the contest with two hits while Miles, Rochelle Sandberg, Jessica Elson and Cameron each registered one.

The two teams will face off in the finale of the three-games series at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
