Forbes Shuts Down Techsters, 2-0

SAN JOSE, Calif. ? San Jose State scored two unearned runs and Carol Forbes tossed a complete-game shutout as the Spartans downed Louisiana Tech 2-0 Friday afternoon at SJSU Field.
Forbes (23-19) allowed only four hits and one walk while striking out seven in the win, her second shutout of the season against the Lady Techsters (18-47, 2-14 WAC).
Tech starter Lindsey Meadows (13-26) also pitched a gem, allowing only three hits and three walks while striking out five in six innings of work. However, Meadows defense let her down in the top of the third inning.
With the game 0-0 heading into the third, Adrienne Hull reached on a fielding error by Tech shortstop Jessica Elson with one out. One out later, pinch runner Lorena Martinez scored on a fielding error by Tech third baseman Sandy Carroll on a ground ball by Courtney Lewis.
After Lewis advanced to second on a wild pitch, Jana Arde followed with an RBI triple, scoring Lewis and giving the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
Louisiana Tech?s best chance to score came in the top of the fourth inning. Ashley Cameron singled down the left field line and Regan Clark reached on a fielder choice in which Cameron was safe at second base.
However, with runners on first and second and no outs, the Lady Techsters failed to capitalize as Forbes retired the next three hitters.
Cameron, Amber Miles (single), Clark (double) and Meadows (single) all registered hits for Tech.
The Lady Techsters will end their season Saturday when they complete the three-game series with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against the Spartan
