TULSA - Tulsa exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning to down Louisiana Tech 11-3 in the second game of the day, sweeping the Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Donna J. Hardesty Softball Complex Saturday.

Tulsa won game No. 1 by a score of 8-0 Saturday.

Tech (18-46, 2-13 WAC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning against the Golden Hurricane (28-30, 8-7), scoring three runs on five hits against Tulsa starter Julie Fennell. Amber Miles produced a one-out single and was driven home by Rochelle Sandberg's RBI double to center.

After an Ashley Cameron bunt single, Regan Clark doubled home Sandberg, making the score 2-0. Lindsey Meadows produced the fifth straight hit for Tech, an RBI single down the left field line and Tech led 3-0 after a half inning of play.

However, the Golden Hurricane responded in a big way, plating 11 runs on 12 hits in the bottom of the first inning. The biggest blow of the inning came via a Sara Dyer grand slam home run off of Tech starter Lesley Aycock, making the score 7-3.

Meadows came on in relief for Aycock following the home run but also struggled giving up four more earned runs on six hits before finally recording the third Tulsa out of the frame.

Neither team would score again as the game was called after the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

Aycock (3-9) picked up the loss for Tech, allowing seven earned runs on six hits in only 0.1 innings of work. Maren Genow (10-8) earned the win in relief of Fennell, who allowed three earned runs on five hits in only 0.1 innings of action.

Miles and Sandberg each registered two hits for Tech while Julie Shafer, Katie Torres, Lindsay Galloway and Dyer each recorded two hits for Tulsa.

In the first game of the day, Tulsa plated three runs in each of the first two innings and two more in the third while Genow blanked Tech in the five-inning affair.

Kristin Rupp (2-9) took the loss, allowing six runs - five earned - on nine hits in only 1.0 inning of work. Brittany Stanley and Christine Echols each registered two hits for the Lady Techsters.

Genow earned the win for Tulsa, allowing only four hits and one walk while striking out six in five innings of work. Torres and Kelly Miller each registered home runs for the Golden Hurricane.
