Bulldogs Face Spartans Saturday
SAN JOSE, Calif. ? Louisiana Tech will be looking for its first road win of the year when the Bulldogs travel to face the San Jose State Spartans Saturday at 5 p.m. CST at Spartan Stadium.
Tech (2-5, 1-2 WAC) hasn?t registered a road win in four attempts this season although this will mark the first non-ranked team the Bulldogs have faced on the road all year after falling at No. 10 Clemson, No. 15 Boise State, No. 20 Nebraska and No. 22 Texas A&M.
San Jose State (4-2, 1-1 WAC) is undefeated at home this year, having won all four meetings on its home turf, including an impressive early season win over Stanford. The Spartans have won six straight games at home dating back to last season.
?San Jose State is a much improved football team,? said Tech head coach Jack Bicknell, who saw his team defeat the Spartans 31-14 last year in Ruston. ?They have some talented offensive weapons and you always know that Dick Tomey defenses are going to be good.?
The Spartans, who had a four-game winning streak snapped last week in a 23-7 loss at Nevada, rely on a balanced offensive attack that has seen Yonus Davis and Patrick Perry combine for 731 rushing yards and six scores and quarterback Adam Tafralis pass for 1139 yards and nine touchdowns.
James Jones (41-502 yards, 5 TD) and John Broussard (32-382, 2 TD) are Tafralis? top two targets and two of the leading receivers in the league.
Tech hopes to ride the momentum from last week?s 48-35 win over Utah State in a game that saw quarterback Zac Champion throw four touchdown passes and true freshman Daniel Porter rush for 178 yards and one score.
?We have to continue to make plays offensively,? Bicknell said. ?I think we have some very good players on that side of the ball, and we showed it last week. That has to continue this week.?
Defensively, the Bulldogs are led by Quin Harris (51 tackles, 4 FR), Marquis McBeath (45 tackles, 4 PBU) and Brannon Jackson (40 tackles).
Dave Nitz, Steve Davison and Benny Thornell will provide all of the action on the Louisiana Tech Radio Network on KXKZ-FM 107.5 and KEEL-AM 710 (Shreveport) with the pregame show starting at 4 p.m. CST.
Tech fans worldwide can also view the game via WAC.tv by logging onto www.wac.tv.
