GRAMBLING ? Louisiana Tech cranked out 30 hits to sweep a doubleheader against Grambling State Tuesday at the Tiger Softball Complex.

The Techsters won game one 12-1, and game two 12-0 with both games being called early due to the eight-run rule.

?Offensively, we did a good job today,? said Techster head coach Sarah Dawson. ?We made adjustments and stayed disciplined at the plate. That?s all I can ask. We have to learn from our mistakes and get better. We did that today.?

Tech (2-4) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead through the first three innings in game No. 1 before exploding for four runs in both the top of the fifth and sixth innings for the victory.

Sophomore catcher Regan Clark led Tech?s offensive attack with three hits and two runs batted in while freshman Emma Barnes (2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and junior Jessica Elson (2 hits, 2 runs, 4 RBI) also played an instrumental role in the win. Elson registered her first home run of the season ? a three-run shot ? in the sixth inning.

Sophomore pitcher Lesley Aycock (1-2) picked up the win, allowing one unearned run on zero hits and only one walk in three innings of work. Freshman Courtney Avery picked up her first career save, scattering three hits over the final three innings.

Despite the relatively easy win in the first contest of the day, Dawson said she wasn?t completely happy with her team?s effort.

?After the first game, I challenged them to come out and play with more energy from the very beginning,? Dawson said. ?We are a better team and have more success when we play with energy.?

Dawson?s team responded to the challenge in game No. 2, scoring three times in the first, twice in the second and five more times in the third inning to blow open the game early.

Once again, Clark led Tech with four hits, while Lianne Albert added three hits and a career-high four RBI for the Lady Techsters. Barnes (2 hits, 2 RBI), Rochelle Sandberg (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Danielle Sheridan (2 hits, 2 runs, 1 RBI) also had productive days at the plate.

Freshman Krissi Oliver (1-2) picked up her first collegiate win, allowing only two infield hits in three innings of work. Avery hurled the final two innings, retiring all six batters she faced.

Tech returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Natchitoches, La., to face Northwestern State in a single game starting at 6 p.m.
