Northwestern State Tops Tech Softballers

Boxscore

NATCHITOCHES, LA ? Northwestern State took advantage of a strong pitching performance and a poor Louisiana Tech defensive effort to down the Lady Techsters 9-1 Wednesday at Demon Diamond.

Tech (2-5) committed a season-high six errors in the game as Northwestern State scored in five of its six innings to hand the Lady Techsters the loss.

Northwestern State (3-2) scored one run in the first, one in the second and three in the third and never looked back. Demons pitcher Amanda Glen limited Tech to only two hits and one earned run while picking up the complete-game victory and improving to 2-1 on the young season.

The Lady Techsters scored their lone run in the top of the third inning. Freshman Emma Barnes led the frame off with a single and then stole second base. Barnes then advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Regan Clark.

Barnes and Jessica Elson were the only Techsters to register hits off of Glen in the contest.

Freshman pitcher Courtney Avery (0-1) picked up the loss, allowing five runs ? only two earned ? on four hits in 2.1 innings of work. Lesley Aycock came on in relief of Avery in the third inning and allowed four runs, three earned, in 3.0 innings of action.

Tech returns to action Friday in day No. 1 of the Louisiana-Monroe Mardi Gras Classic.
