Arkansas Downs Bulldogs in Final Game

Louisiana Tech dropped its third game 10-2 in a weekend series to the No. 17 nationally-ranked and undefeated Arkansas Razorbacks in Baum Stadium at George Cole Field before a crowd of 6,372 on Saturday.

Arkansas (9-0) started the game with five runs in the first inning, as Tech junior righty Nathan Bounds (0-2) suffered the loss on the mound after pitching two-thirds innings and allowing five earned runs.

Senior Matt Lacy made his first appearance of the season at pitcher and delivered the next three and 1/3 innings, giving up three earned runs, before sophomore Aaron Lorio finished the final four innnings and allowed only two runs.

The Bulldogs mustered six hits at the plate as a team, led by sophomore Albie Goulder's two hits. Seniors Amos Ramon and Ryan Hamilton and freshmen Jericho Jones and Chris Kersten each had one hit.

Tech earned its runs in the top of the seventh and eighth innings. Junior Brady Bascle led off the seventh inning with a walk, and Ramon followed with a double that sent Bascle to third base. Then, senior Ben Tabor pinch hit for junior Brandon Hudson and hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, which scored Bascle before the next three Bulldogs went down in order.

With one out in the eighth inning, freshman Nick Grunenwald and sophomore Adam Cobb both drew walks before Jones loaded the bases with a single to centerfield. Bascle came to the plate next and walked, which scored the Bulldogs' final run, and the next two went down to end the inning.

After the Bulldogs started the season with their first seven games at home, Tech will continue its travel with two games at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. and March 1 at 3 p.m.
