Techsters Win Two at Mardi Gras Mambo Tournament
THIBODAUX, La. - A 2-RBI double by Regan Clark late in the 6th inning helped give Tech the edge they needed for a 6-5 win over Nicholls on Sunday.
Sophomore catcher/first baseman Clark, freshman outfielder Danielle Sheridan and junior short stop Jessica Elson contributed two hits each.
Freshman pitcher Courtney Avery (2-3) picked up the win after entering the game in the 6th inning, allowing four hits and two runs, while striking out one.
?After falling behind in the sixth inning, I was really proud of the team for answering back so quickly,? said Techster head coach Sarah Dawson. ?The great thing about this group of players is that we have so many ways to score and win ball games. Everyone has stepped up at some point, which says a lot about this team.?
After the contest between the Techsters and Colonels was called early Saturday due to inclement weather, the game was rescheduled Sunday morning. Tech (6-9) collected 10 hits in the victory.
Tech recorded their second win of the day after shutting out Nicholls 2-0. Sophomore second baseman Rochelle Sandberg led the team with 2 hits ? one being a homerun ? and one RBI. Freshman outfielder Emma Barnes and junior outfielder Ashley Cameron, along with Clark and junior catcher Christine Echols, all contributed one hit each.
Freshman pitcher Krissi Oliver (1-3) picked up the save, adding the second to her record for the season.
?Consistency was the key this weekend. We talk about competing for seven innings, and those one-run games showed how competitive we are,? Dawson said. ?It was good to see us come out on top of those games.?
The only loss of the day came when the Techsters faced Jacksonville State. Cameron?s solo homerun was not enough to produce a win as the Techsters fell 4-1. Sophomore Lesley Aycock (3-3) was credited with the loss.
Tech finished the Mardi Gras Mambo Tournament with a 2-2 record.
?We are making advances, which we proved this weekend,? Dawson said. ?We have about 3? weeks to get ready to compete in conference, so we?re looking to continue to improve both offensively and defensively.?
The Techsters return to action at Noon Tuesday Feb. 28 for their first home game of the season when they take on the Louisiana-Monroe Lady Indians.
