Techsters Sweep Utah State

RUSTON ? Louisiana Tech overcame an early 4-0 deficit to down Utah State 6-4 in the first game of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at the Lady Techsters Softball Complex.
Tech (13-23, 4-8 WAC) won game two on the day 9-1 in five innings to complete a three-game sweep of the Aggies (5-30, 0-8).
After falling behind 4-0 through three innings of play Saturday, Tech scored one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to down Utah State 6-4. Carly White?s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning tied the game at 4-4.
Freshman Emma Barnes led the sixth inning off with her seventh triple of the year and scored on a sacrifice fly by Danielle Sheridan, giving Tech a 5-4 lead. Back to back doubles by Rochelle Sandberg and Regan Clark plated an insurance run as the Lady Techsters completed the come-from-behind win.
Clark led Tech with three hits while White added two hits and three RBI. Barnes, Sandberg, Christine Echols, Jessica Elson and Ashley Cameron each added one hit.
Krissi Oliver picked up the win in relief, allowing zero base runners over the final 2.0 innings of work. Kristin Rupp started on the mound for Tech and allowed four runs ? three earned ? on nine hits in 5.0 innings of action.
Heather Straight (5-9) picked up the loss for the Aggies, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and three walks.
In the second game of the day, Tech blew open a 3-1 game by scoring six runs on seven hits in the bottom of the third inning.
Barnes, Sandberg, Cameron and Oliver each registered two hits while Cameron plated four runs ? including hitting her eighth home run of the year in the second inning ? while Sandberg registered two RBI.
Oliver (7-8) picked up her third win of the series, scattering seven hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Tech returns to action Tuesday at 4 p.m. with a doubleheader against Nicholls State at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
