Techsters Down Tigers in Wednesday Doubleheader

RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters softball team combined 22 hits to finish the Grambling State Tigers off 13-5 and 8-0 Wednesday at the Lady Techsters Softball Complex.

GSU (3-42) took an early lead in game one when Estella Mata doubled to right field and later scored off of two bunts. The Tigers held onto the lead until the bottom of the second when the Techsters (15-25) exploded offensively with nine runs on eight hits.

Grambling continued to battle back, capitalizing on five Louisiana Tech errors, but the Techsters were able to put the game away by scoring four more runs in the fourth, ending the game early in five innings.

Emma Barnes, Regan Clark, Christine Echols and Carly White all had two hits in the first victory. While Rochelle Sandberg, Jessica Elson, Sandy Carroll and Ashley Cameron each contributed one hit.

Senior Kristin Rupp (2-7) was credited with the win after allowing five runs ? three earned ? on six hits in 5.0 innings of work.

In game two, freshman Krissi Oliver (8-9) tossed a three hit shutout in 6.0 innings of play.

Tech used 10 hits and took advantage of four GSU errors for the win. Echols led the Techsters with three hits and two RBIs; Barnes, Danielle Sheridan and Clark followed close behind with two hits; and White added one.

?Unfortunately, this was one of those times when we walked off of the field with victories but we couldn?t feel good about them,? said Techster head coach Sarah Dawson. ?It was nice to get the wins under our belt, but we didn?t compete or play much better than we did yesterday. We have to learn to come out with a different attitude ? a spirit of competitiveness for seven innings no matter who we are facing.?

The Techsters return to action in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday when they host the University of Northern Colorado Bears.
