San Jose State Edges Lady Techsters, 1-0

RUSTON, La. ? A goal from nearly 30 yards out by Jessica Scott proved to be all San Jose State would need as they held on for a 1-0 victory over Louisiana Tech on Friday night at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Tech (2-12-1, 0-4-1 WAC) outshot and outplayed the Spartans for much of the 90 minutes, but could not find the back of the net despite several good scoring chances.

?I thought that was probably the best 90 minutes of soccer Louisiana Tech has ever played,? Lady Techster head coach Kevin Sherry said. ?I couldn?t have been prouder. It was a real team effort from everyone, both the starters and the bench players. The future here is going to be great.?

The Spartans did not manage a shot until late in the first half. But they made their second one count. Barely three minutes into the second half, San Jose State junior forward Jessica Scott lofted a ball toward the Tech goal. Tech keeper Tara Gavlak appeared to lose sight of the ball, but by the time she found it, it was a second too late, and the Spartans had a 1-0 lead.

Tech took six shots on the night to San Jose State?s four. Kiva Gresham had two shots for the Techsters, including one on goal, and Kat McCullough and Denise Wilson had Tech?s other two shots on goal.

Junior Emily Cleaveland, Tech?s leading scorer a year ago, played in her first contest since suffering a leg injury Sept. 5 at Northwestern State. She registered one shot in her return to action.

Louisiana Tech will play its final home game of the season on Sunday as the Hawai?i Rainbow Wahine visit Ruston. Kickoff is set for noon at Joe Aillet Stadium, and admission is free. Senior Day festivities will begin shortly before kickoff as Tech?s two seniors ? Candace Novak and Laura Williamson ? will play their final home games as Lady Techsters.

Fans unable to make it to the stadium can catch all the action by logging on to www.LaTechTV.com for a free video webcast. Live stats will also be available at www.latechsports.com.
