RUSTON ? Louisiana Tech sophomore Matthew Harvey was named the Western Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for October.

Harvey, a Georgetown, Texas native, won the individual title in the only tournament the Bulldogs play in last month. He had a three-round total of 209 (74-71-64: -7) to win the Squire Creek Invitational hosted by Louisiana Tech Oct. 15 and 16.

In the final round, Harvey shot a tournament-record 64, which included an eagle on 17 and a birdie on 18 as he won the individual honors by one stroke. The 64 was also the second lowest round in Tech history.

A field of 96 golfers from 18 schools ? including seven ranked in the top 100 ? participated in the invitational. Harvey?s performance helped Tech to a third place team finish.
