RUSTON ? The box score following next Thursday night?s exhibition game at the Thomas Assembly Center might read a little funny to those who aren?t familiar with Louisiana Tech?s opponent.
However, one thing is for sure ? the Lady Techsters will win.
Tech fans can see the past and the present when head coach Chris Long?s current Lady Techster team matches up against legendary coach Leon Barmore and a team comprised of former Techster letterwinners in its final exhibition game of the season.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Tech defeated Dillard 88-51 in its first exhibition contest, but Long knows this game will be much more challenging for his basketball team.
?It will give our team another opportunity to continue working on our execution and discover where our weaknesses are in preparation for the Western Kentucky game,? Long said. ?There will be quite a few very talented former Lady Techsters playing so we will have our hands full. They will be much bigger than what we faced against Dillard.?
In the contest against Dillard,
Shanavia Dowdell led six Lady Techsters in double figures with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Long said he was pleased with the balanced scoring by his team.
?The game against Dillard allowed five of our seven new players a chance to get rid of some butterflies,? Long said. ?We did some good things, and I was happy to see us put up 88 points as much as we substituted. However, it also exposed some areas defensively where we must get better quickly.?
Although some tweaking could still occur, the roster for the former Lady Techster team currently consists of guard LaQuan Stallworth, guard Shantel Hardison, forward Amanda Wilson, guard Catina Malone, center Takeisha Lewis, guard Kendra Neal, forward Kenya Bibbs, guard Katie Cochran Hall, guard Pam Thomas, guard Monica Maxwell and former Northwestern State forward Pam Hudson.
Long said he is looking forward to the event and said it should be enjoyable for Lady Techster fans.
?This will be exciting for the fans,? Long said. ?I hope our fans will turn out to watch as these former players come back and to see the talented young players we have brought in this year.?
Tech will open the regular season Nov. 20 at Western Kentucky in a game that will be televised on Fox College Sports Atlantic.
