Jones Earns National POW Honor
RUSTON, La. ? Louisiana Tech sophomore Jericho Jones earned his first national honor of the season Tuesday being named to the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll. Every Tuesday the foundation selects a group of players as honorees for their performances in the prior week.
The honor comes a day after Jones was named Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week. He is joined by some of the top players in the nation on this week?s Honor Roll. Jones hit .650 (13-for-20) in five games last week for the Bulldogs and drove in 16 runs and played a key role in extending Tech?s winning streak to eight games. The outfielder/pitcher hit three home runs, three doubles, one triple and walked twice while scoring 11 runs. In Saturday's second game against McNeese State, Tech trailed 10-1 to start the seventh inning before Jones hit a three-run homer, his second of the game. In the eighth, he hit a two-run double to take the lead for the first time in the game. The Bulldogs went on to win, 15-13. For the game, he was 3-for-5 with six RBIs and three runs. Sunday, he went 2-for-3 with four more RBIs to help seal the series sweep.
The College Baseball Foundation is based out of Lubbock, Texas, at the College Baseball Hall of Fame and is a charitable organization founded with the goals of recording the history of college baseball as well as fostering an appreciation for the sport. The CBF also gives the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award annually. Jones was one the preseason watch list for the Wallace Award.
