DENTON, Texas ? Louisiana Tech downed North Texas 8-4 in game No. 2 of Thursday?s softball doubleheader to split with the Mean Green at Lovelace Stadium.

Tech fell 3-1 in the first game of the afternoon.

In game No. 2, Tech (15-14) used two big innings to beat North Texas as the Lady Techsters plated three runs in both the second and sixth frames.

Tech jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second as two hits and two North Texas errors led to the big inning with all three runs being unearned. Ashley Cameron and Emma Barnes each registered singles in the frame for Tech.

After North Texas scored three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game, Tech responded as Christine Echols blasted a solo home run over the left field wall in the fourth to make the score 4-3.

Barnes hit her second home run of the year in the fifth over the right field wall to give the Lady Techsters a 5-3 advantage. Echols two-run home run over the left field fence ignited a three-run sixth inning as Tech cruised to the 8-4 win.

Echols (2 hits, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 runs) and Barnes (2 hits, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 run) led Tech offensively in the victory.

Krissi Oliver (10-10) picked up the win in relief, allowing one unearned run on four hits and one walk in 3.2 innings of action.

Mandi Bertsch started in the circle for Tech, allowing three unearned runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings.

Tech fell in the first game of the day as three errors ultimately spelled defeat. Oliver was tagged with the loss despite surrendering only one earned run on four hits and four walks in 6.0 innings of action.

North Texas scored once in the third and twice in the fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead. Louisiana Tech responded by scoring one run in the sixth on a Regan Clark groundout.

Tech loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh but North Texas ended the rally with a strikeout.

Kylie Bassett led Tech with two hits, while Amberly Waits, Cameron and Echols each registered one hit.

Tech returns to action March 20 at 6 p.m. as it hosts UL-Monroe.
