Tech Softball Falls at Utah State

LOGAN ? Utah State scored the game-winning run with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to down Louisiana Tech 7-6 in the first game of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series.
With the two teams tied at 6-6, Utah State?s Nicole Rupp led the bottom of the ninth off with a double and scored the winning run on an RBI single by Heather Haak.
Krissi Oliver (15-17) picked up the loss for Louisiana Tech, allowing seven runs ? six earned ? on 16 hits in 8.0 innings of action.
Tech (20-25, 3-7 WAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Aggies (12-23, 2-5 WAC) plated one run in the bottom of the second to close the gap.
Amberly Waits gave Tech a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI double, scoring Rochelle Sandberg who had singled with two outs.
Utah State took its first lead of the game by plating four runs on four hits and one Tech effort in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving it a 5-3 advantage.
The Lady Techsters responded by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth on a run-scoring single by Carly White and a two-run throwing error by the Aggies.
Utah State tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth sending the contest into extra frames.
Waits led Tech with three hits while Ashley Cameron added one.
The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 2 p.m.
