Arkansas Uses Long Ball to Down Techsters
Boxscore I Boxscore II
SHERWOOD, Ark. ? Arkansas hit four home runs in a doubleheader sweep over Louisiana Tech Wednesday night as the Ladybacks downed the Techsters 1-0 and 5-4.
Tech starter Krissi Oliver and Arkansas starter Miranda Dixon both pitched brilliantly during game No. 1 of the day as Dixon provided the only offense she and Arkansas would need with a solo home run in the fourth inning of the 1-0 win.
Oliver (15-21), who took the loss in both games, allowed only four hits and one walk in the complete game performance with Dixon?s sixth home run of the year accounting for all the runs.
Amberly Waits, Ashley Cameron and Christine Echols each registered one hit for Tech which mounted a rally in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, Waits doubled and Cameron followed with a sharp single to left field advancing Waits to third.
However, Dixon retired the final two Tech batters on foul outs to earn the victory.
In game No. 2 of the night, Tech led 2-0 after plating a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning against Arkansas pitcher Katy Henry. Tech scored on an RBI double by Kylie Bassett and an RBI single by Echols to take the 2-0 lead.
However, with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Arkansas used the long ball once again as three consecutive Ladybacks left the yard off of Oliver, plating five runs and giving Arkansas a 5-2 lead. All five runs were unearned as Tech?s lone error of the doubleheader opened up the flood gates.
Once again, Tech tried to rally in the seventh as the Lady Techsters got a two-out two-run single by Emma Barnes to make the score 5-4. Barnes advanced to second on a passed ball but Summer Young was unable to drive her home ending the game with a strike out.
Oliver allowed five unearned runs on 11 hits and one walk in 5.2 innings of work. Kenry got the win for Arkansas, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings of action while Dixon earned the save recording the final two outs.
Waits led Tech with three hits while Barnes added two.
