Techsters Tough Luck Losers at WAC Tourney
Boxscore
FRESNO ? Louisiana Tech outplayed Nevada but came up short on the scoreboard as the Lady Techsters season came to an end with a 3-2 loss to the Wolf Pack at the 2007 Western Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday night.
Tech (22-38) received another outstanding pitching performance from sophomore hurler Krissi Oliver but two untimely errors in the second inning led to a three-run home run and ultimately spelled doom.
?As much as this team has been through this year, I thought they came out here and gave it everything they had the last two days,? said head coach Sarah Dawson. ?I?m proud of these young ladies. I?m proud of my two seniors (Carly White and Ashley Cameron). It was a tough year, but we can definitely build from this next year.?
With the score tied at 0-0, Nevada (25-30) had its first two batters of the top of the second inning reach on infield errors. Wolf Pack catcher Katie Stith followed with only her second home run of the year ? both against Tech ? and the Lady Techsters found themselves trailing 3-0.
Tech answered in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by senior Carly White, scoring Ashley Cameron who led the frame off with a single. A potential second run was snuffed out by Nevada as Kyle Bassett was throw out and home to end the frame.
The Lady Techsters had an opportunity to blow the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tech loaded the bases with one out before Emma Barnes singled up the middle to make the score 3-2.
Nevada pulled starting pitcher Jordan McPherson and reliever Katie Holverson came on to retire Amberly Waits and Rochelle Sandberg to end the threat.
Tech got the leadoff batter on in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn?t get the game-tying run home as Nevada advanced to Friday?s third day of the WAC Tournament.
Oliver (17-27) picked up the loss despite allowing only one earned run on five hits in 7.0 innings of work.
Barnes and Cameron each registered two hits for Tech. Barnes ended her sophomore season with 67 hits, one shy of tying the Louisiana Tech single season record of 68 by Amber Miles in 2004.
