SHREVEPORT, La.?A pair of goals by freshman Brooke Lanie in her first collegiate appearance propelled Louisiana Tech to a 3-1 scrimmage victory over homestanding LSU-Shreveport on Sunday.

Tech controlled the pace throughout most of the match, registering 22 shots to only three for LSUS. Tara Gavlak picked up the win in goal for the Techsters, registering a pair of saves on the afternoon.

?I think it was important to start with a win, even though it is only a scrimmage,? head coach Kevin Sherry said. ?It is important for the confidence, and it is important that they now, hopefully, will have a bit more faith in the style and culture of soccer that we are trying to teach them.

?There were some really outstanding performances by some individuals, but there is still a lot of hard work left to be done for us to get to where we want to be.?

Despite the Lady Pilots only managing three shots, their first one found the back of the net as Julia Vaughan connected from 15 yards at the 13:21 mark of the first half to give the home team an early 1-0 lead.

But the Lady Techsters would answer in the 36th minute, though, as Lanie put in the equalizer at 35:38 with an assist from Caitlin Crawford.

The constant pressure by Tech finally proved to be too much for the Lady Pilots in the 81st minute as Lindsey Gamill put in the game-winner from the top of the box, unassisted.

Louisiana Tech added an insurance goal in the 88th minute when Sarah Chovanec found a wide-open Lanie, who chipped it in from the left side of the box to give the Techsters the 3-1 victory.

Tech returns to action on Monday as it plays host to Ouachita Baptist University in an exhibition match in Ruston. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Joe Aillet Stadium.
