Techsters Sign JC Guard RUSTON ? Louisiana Tech head coach Chris Long announced Monday the addition of Salt Lake Community College point guard
Shordy Mulford to the Lady Techster roster for the upcoming season.
Mulford averaged 9.5 points and 3.8 assists while leading Salt Lake Community College to the junior college national tournament this past season. During Mulford?s two seasons in junior college, the 5-foot-3-inch guard led SLCC to a 52-18 mark.
?Shordy may be the most intense player I've watched play,? Long said. ?Wow, she gets after it. Her passion for the game is so clear when you watch her play. She is a very good passer. She really understands how to enter the ball to the post. She can shoot the 3 and finish at the basket despite her size. You don't find individuals very often that lead their teams the way Shordy did at Salt Lake Community College.?
Mulford signed a national letter of intent in April but still had some academic work to finish before enrolling at Tech.
?We signed her in the late signing period, but she had to graduate this summer. I'm excited she was able to take care of her course work, and I am eager to have her here as she will be a great asset on and off the court.?
The West Valley City native earned all-Region 18 honors as a sophomore while raking third in assists, fifth in three-point field goal percentage (35 percent) and second in three-point field goals made per game.
?Shordy had a great national tournament,? said SLCC head coach Betsy Specketer. ?She has so many tools to work with ? she can create, she?s extremely hard to guard in the open court, she can hit a pull up jumper and bury the three. She brings emotion, passion and enthusiasm to every game, and her teammates feed off her intensity and leadership.?
Tech opens practice Oct. 13.
