RUSTON -- Louisiana Tech has already set numerous records this season as head coach Kevin Sherry's Lady Techsters have also clinched the program's first ever winning season.

Sherry and Co. will have an opportunity to take another giant step Friday night when they host Western Athletic Conference Champion Utah State at 7 p.m. at Ruston Junior High School in the regular season finale.

With a win, Tech (10-4-5, 0-2-4) would clinch a spot in the upcoming WAC Tournament which would be another first for the Lady Techster program. A tie by Tech Friday night could possibly still get it in the tournament although the Techsters would need some help.

However, Tech faces quite a challenge as the Aggies (11-7-1, 6-0-0 WAC) are undefeated in league play, including having won four straight games by one goal.

"Playing the newly crowned WAC champions is a daunting task, but a challenge we welcome," Sherry said. "We welcome it because we hope to compete for future WAC championships, and it is only playing at this level where we will learn what it takes. Utah State is a benchmark for where we see ourselves and gives us insight into what we need to do in order to be competitive in the future."

Sherry said regardless of the outcome of Friday night's game, he is proud of this year's team and especially of his senior class which will be playing their final game at home and possibly their final game ever in a Tech uniform.

"We will be saying good bye to our five seniors who have served this program with great honor," said Sherry, referring to Leslie Buck, Emily Cleaveland, Brittany Davis, Denise Wilson and Amy Wolsted. "They have been a very important part in the transformation of the program. Their example, leadership and self sacrifice are the building blocks on which this program is being built."
