RUSTON - Louisiana Tech (2-3) couldn't capitalize on a solid pitching performance by junior Krissi Oliver as the Lady Techsters fell 1-0 to North Texas (3-2) in the first game of a softball doubleheader at the Lady Techster Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon.
Oliver (1-2) allowed only one run on six hits and no walks while striking out nine in 7.0 innings of work but was outdone by Mean Green hurler Jennifer Smith (1-0) who allowed only one hit and two walks in the complete-game victory.
"Krissi did a good job for us," said Tech head coach Sarah Dawson. "There was really nothing more that she could do to keep us in the game then what she did on the mound.
"I was really disappointed in us offensively. I was frustrated that we weren't making adjustments at the plate, especially after we did that so well this past weekend."
The game was scoreless heading into the top of the sixth inning before North Texas mounted an offensive rally. Lauren Bergstrom led the frame off with a double to left center and moved to third on a sacrifice. Mallory Cantler then singled home Bergstrom giving North Texas the 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. Regan Clark broke up Smith's no-hitter with a leadoff double to right center field before being pinch ran for by Sarah Offutt.
Oliver lined out to third base for the first out of the inning before Offutt advanced to third base on a passed ball. However, Jessica Kirby struck out for the second out of the frame and then Smith enticed Summer Young into a ground ball out to end the game.
