OXFORD - Jacksonville State scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to down Louisiana Tech 5-3 in extra innings Saturday night at the Red and Blue Classic in Oxford.
The loss was the second of the day for Tech which also fell 4-0 to Ole Miss.
Tech (9-10) lost despite registering 10 hits in the game as errors once again spelled doom for the Lady Techsters.
A first inning error by second baseman Heather Doiron came two batters before Jacksonville State's Nikki Prier launched a two-run home run off Tech starter Jordan Simmons, giving the Gamecocks a 2-0 lead.
Tech cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning as Emma Barnes doubled and then came around on a Regan Clark single to centerfield.
After Jacksonville State (11-6) added a run in the top of the fifth inning - the run was unearned as Amberly Waits error led to the score - Tech tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Danielle Sheridan doubled scoring Megan Granger and Claire Gibson. Barnes was thrown out at home on the play, keeping the game knotted at 3-3.
Tech had an opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Waits drew a walk to lead the frame off and was sacrificed to second base by Clark. However, Krissi Oliver struck out and Kylie Bassett grounded out to shortstop to end the threat, sending the game into extra frames.
Jordan Simmons (1-4) picked up the loss, allowing five runs - only two earned - on nine hits and two walks in 8.0 innings of work.
Barnes, Waits and Granger led Tech with two hits each.
Tech ends tournament play Sunday with a noon game against Troy.
